Management Whole-person Health

A whole-person health & well-being approach to sHTG 25

Living a fulfilling, healthy life often goes beyond just treating medical conditions like severe hypertriglyceridemia (sHTG). It also includes taking care of your social, psychological, and emotional well-being. Relationships, finances, and environment may also impact health

Many healthcare professionals (HCPs) recognize the effect these other factors can have, an approach called ‘integrative medicine’ or ‘whole-person healthcare.’ Such HCPs can help you find resources for making improvements to your whole life that work in concert with improvements to laboratory values such as triglyceride levels.

Getting started

Other parts of this website have more information on how you can use whole-person health, such as Your Healthcare Team.

Your doctor may be able to refer you to a behavioral health consultant who can work with your healthcare team as it develops plans for managing sHTG and other factors impacting your health and well-being.

Behavioral health consultants, social workers, counselors, and psychologists may help you overcome lifestyle barriers and habits that make it hard for you to live a more healthful life.

Feeling overwhelmed?

Many people with sHTG also have other health problems, such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol, or chronic kidney disease. It is understandable that you might feel overwhelmed if you are dealing with more than one condition.

If you do, it may help to discuss such negative emotions with your healthcare team. Ask your doctor to refer you to someone who can give you that kind of support.

Specially-trained HCPs can provide support for people coping with complex medical conditions. Working with them can make a big difference to your health and well-being, and in the success of your treatment.
